Is this exclusive Top of the World Lounge worth the hype? We break down the location, access, fireworks seating, and cocktails so you can decide for yourself.

If you’ve ever dreamed of sipping a villainously named cocktail while Magic Kingdom fireworks explode across the sky right in front of you, Top of the World Lounge (A Villain’s Lair) might just be your kind of place. Perched on the rooftop of Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, this Disney Vacation Club (DVC) exclusive lounge is one of Walt Disney World’s best kept secrets and one of the most coveted fireworks viewing spots on property.

Where Is Villain’s Lair?

Disney's Bay Lake Tower as seen from Disney's monorail

The lounge sits on the 16th floor of Bay Lake Tower, which is the DVC tower connected to Disney’s Contemporary Resort. If you’ve ever ridden the monorail and looked over at that big tower next to the Contemporary, that’s where you’re headed. The location is stunning. You’re essentially standing on top of one of Disney’s most iconic resorts, with sweeping panoramic views of Magic Kingdom, Bay Lake, and the surrounding resort area. On a clear evening, you can see Cinderella Castle glowing in the distance, and the entire Magic Kingdom skyline stretches out before you.

The lounge itself was reimagined in 2022 with a Disney Villains theme. Don’t expect a full on haunted mansion makeover, though. The overlay is subtle (think gilded portraits of Ursula, Jafar, and the Evil Queen on the walls, copies of the book Lair: Radical Homes and Hideouts of Movie Villains on the tables, and villain themed music playing softly in the background). The centerpiece of Top of the World Lounge remains the gorgeous translucent monorail mural behind the bar, a nod to the resort’s history. It’s chic, it’s moody, and it strikes a nice balance between Disney fun and grown up lounge vibes.

Who’s Allowed In?

Here’s where things get a little exclusive. Villain’s Lair is not open to the general Disney World public. Access is reserved for Disney Vacation Club members who are eligible for Membership Extras. In practical terms, this means you generally need to own a minimum of 150 DVC points purchased directly from Disney, or be grandfathered under previous eligibility rules.

You can bring up to four guests per DVC Membership Card, or the number of guests listed on your Disney Resort reservation booked with your DVC membership. At least one eligible member in the party must present a valid digital DVC Membership Card and a government issued photo ID at check in.

One bright spot: unlike in the past, you no longer need to be staying on property at a Disney resort to access the lounge. If you’re a local DVC member who qualifies for Membership Extras, you can pop in for the evening without booking a hotel stay.

It’s also worth noting that the lounge may have blockout dates on major holidays like July 4th and New Year’s Eve, as well as during special ticketed events.

How Fireworks Seating Works

Let’s be real. The fireworks view is the main draw here, and the system for getting a seat has evolved over the years. Here’s what you need to know as of early 2026:

Complimentary Fireworks Viewing (New Reservation System)

Starting January 1, 2026, DVC introduced a reservation system for complimentary fireworks viewing for the first time. Eligible members can now reserve a spot to watch Magic Kingdom’s nightly fireworks from the outdoor terrace near Top of the World Lounge up to 60 days in advance by calling Member Services at (800) 800 9800. This is a huge improvement over the old days when it was entirely first come, first served and members would arrive hours early just to stake out a spot. Complimentary parking is included and becomes available two hours before your reservation time.

One important note: this reservation is for the outdoor terrace viewing area. Indoor lounge seating is not necessarily included as part of the complimentary reservation.

Wicked Wind Down ($55 per person)

If you want the full premium experience, the Wicked Wind Down at Top of the World Lounge is a paid add on at $55 per person (plus tax and gratuity). This package gets you a cocktail, an appetizer from the Villain’s themed menu, a slice of the famous Seven “Lair” Cake, a reserved table inside the lounge, and a reserved spot in the fireworks viewing area on the terrace. You’ll want to arrive no later than 30 minutes before the fireworks begin. Reservations can be made by calling Member Services up to 60 days in advance.

Is it worth the $55? Opinions vary. The food and drinks are solid, the reserved table is a nice perk, and not having to scramble for a spot is genuinely relaxing. On the other hand, if you’ve already eaten dinner elsewhere (like Steakhouse 71 downstairs), paying $55 for a drink and an appetizer can feel steep. My take: do it once for the experience, especially if you’re sharing it with someone who hasn’t been before.

Walk Up Availability

Limited walk up availability still exists alongside the reservation options. The lounge opens at 6:00 PM daily (check in starts on the 16th floor), and if there’s room, walk ups can be accommodated. Your best bet for a walk up visit is to arrive right at opening or after the fireworks show has ended. Things clear out significantly once the show wraps, and you’ll find it much easier to grab a table between about 10:00 PM and midnight.

The Cocktails: A Villainous Review

Now for the fun part. Villain’s Lair doesn’t serve entrees, but the cocktail and appetizer menu is where the lounge really leans into its theme. Here’s my take on some of the standout drinks:

Cursed Pirate is a tropical rum cocktail blending Diplomatico Planas and Gosling’s Black Seal with passion fruit, pineapple, lime, cane sugar, and blue curaƧao. It’s sweet, it’s fun, and that blue color makes it incredibly Instagram worthy against the sunset. It’s the kind of drink that tastes like vacation and goes down dangerously easy.

Tower Trap is a gin forward option featuring Askur45 Gin, Yellow Chartreuse, orange blossom honey, black tea, cucumber, and fresh lime. It’s aromatic and refreshing, making it a nice palate cleanser if you’ve been eating your way through the parks all day.

Overall, the cocktails are well crafted and genuinely creative, not just basic mixed drinks with a fancy name slapped on them. The villain theming gives the menu a playful personality, and the bartenders clearly put care into each drink. Prices are in the $15 to $22 range, which is on par with other Disney signature lounges.

Don’t Skip the Food

While the drinks are the star, a few food items deserve a shout out. The Seven Lair Cake is practically mandatory. It’s a moist seven layer cake drizzled with salted caramel sauce that has been a fan favorite since before the villains retheme. The Unfortunate Souls Shrimp with Romesco sauce and olive tapenade is a solid savory choice, and the Cosmic Power Flatbread is a surprisingly good plant based option with za’atar spiced “beef” and pickled onions.

Final Verdict

Top of the World Lounge (A Villain’s Lair) is one of those Disney experiences that’s more about the moment than the meal. The villain theming is light but charming, the cocktails are creative and well made, and the fireworks view from that rooftop terrace is genuinely breathtaking. Watching the Magic Kingdom light up from 16 stories up, drink in hand, with no crowds pressing in around you? It’s a special kind of Disney magic.

The DVC exclusivity will understandably be a dealbreaker for many. If you’re not a member, this simply isn’t accessible to you (and renting DVC points won’t get you in either, since you need actual membership eligibility). But if you do have access, the new reservation system makes it easier than ever to plan your visit without the old stress of showing up early and hoping for the best.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. A must do for DVC members at least once, especially now that fireworks reservations are available. The cocktails deliver, the view is world class, and there’s nothing quite like toasting to the villains while fireworks light up the Florida sky.
