Beignets at Port Orlean's Sccat Cat Cafe

If you grew up in Louisiana like I did, you learn early in life that a good beignet can solve just about anything. They’re part breakfast, part dessert, and part therapy. So on a recent stay at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort French Quarter, we had to see how Scat Cat Cafe stacks up. You can’t call something a beignet without earning it, and we take that seriously back home.

Port Orleans French Quarter is one of the most charming moderate resorts at Walt Disney World. It’s small, walkable, and styled after the quieter corners of New Orleans with pastel buildings, wrought iron, and gas lamp vibes. The whole place feels like an invitation to slow down. Scat Cat Cafe sits right off the lobby, and while it may be a simple quick service spot, it has a very important job. It is the only place at Walt Disney World where you can get hot, fresh beignets that are made to order.

Before I talk about the food, let me explain the beignet basics just in case you have never had one outside of Disney. A real beignet is a square of yeast dough that puffs up into a light pillow when it’s dropped in hot oil. When it’s done right, the inside is airy and warm while the outside has a delicate chew. Then you coat it in a ton of powdered sugar. You do not shake a little sugar. You let it rain sugar. It should dust your shirt, your table, and your soul.

Scat Cat Cafe makes their beignets fresh for every order, which already puts them miles ahead of the pre-made versions some places try to pass off. They come out warm and soft with a generous coating of powdered sugar. You can order classic beignets or specialty versions with flavored toppings or dipping sauces. They even have Mickey shaped ones! It’s Disney, so we expect a little magic with breakfast. They are fun, photogenic, and honestly taste better than I expected. Are they exactly like the ones at Rue Beignet in Baton Rouge that I grew up on? Not quite, but for Florida they’re pretty solid.

The texture is slightly denser compared to what you would find at a true Louisiana beignet shop, but the flavor is warm and buttery with enough sweetness to make you smile. I recommend eating them outside near the cobblestone paths if the weather is nice. Something about the jazz music in the background and the early morning quiet makes the whole experience feel like a soft nod to home.

Beignets at Walt Disney World might not be the first thing on your must do list, but they are a great way to start your day before heading into the parks. They are quick, filling without feeling heavy, and familiar enough to be comforting. Pair them with a chicory inspired coffee and you have the closest thing Florida can get to a Louisiana morning.

If Port Orleans French Quarter steals your heart and you want to make stays here happen more often, Disney Vacation Club can be a smart path. Vacation Club Loans offers financing options that can help you bring those soft morning moments with warm beignets into your regular Disney routine.
