I first did one of Disney’s Virtual Races during the COVID pandemic, and I still cherish the Star Wars
medal to this day. (Secretly, the only reason I signed up was for that medal!)
Fast forward to now, and I find myself registering for every Disney virtual race they offer. These
events have quickly become my favorites.
I’m often asked by friends, “Why bother?” Why would someone want to race virtually? Isn’t
that the opposite of racing if you’re on your own, running at your own pace, and not really racing
anyone?
On the surface, it might sound a little odd… but once you look at the benefits, it makes total
sense.
Let’s break down why Virtual Race Day is pure magic.
Huge Benefits of a Virtual Race
✅ No 3AM Wake-Up Call
No getting up at 3AM, leaving your resort half-asleep, catching a bus, and checking in at 4AM.
✅ Skip the Corral Waiting Game
No standing for hours in your assigned corral waiting for your turn to start. If you’re in a later group (like E or beyond), the process can take up to two hours.
✅ No Travel Expenses
You can complete your virtual race anywhere and anytime—day or night.
- Treadmill? Check.
- Around the neighborhood? Absolutely.
- On vacation as a fun goal? Why not! How fun to do a 5K in (insert destination here)?
✅ Avoid the Florida Weather
Florida can be hot and humid during certain months, especially when physical exertion is part of your park day.
Disney’s virtual races usually take place later in the year—perfect timing while still getting the race experience because Florida can be unbearable in August and September.✅ Same Disney Community Magic
Even if you’re not a serious runner, virtual races are a fantastic way to stay connected.
You can still:
- Share photos
- Post finish times
- Show off your new medal
- Talk Disney with fellow fans
It’s still a community, just on your own schedule.
Running on Your Own Terms
Virtual races are ideal for:
- Parents juggling busy schedules
- Professionals with limited free time
- Beginners who may feel self-conscious in large crowds
- Anyone recovering from injury who needs flexibility
Running when it works for you makes these events incredibly accessible.
MAJOR PERK: The Medals Are AMAZING

Let’s be honest…The Disney medals are the real stars of the show—and virtual races are no exception.
The designs are fun, collectible, and totally worth the registration. I can’t wait to see what Disney has created for the 2026 Virtual Race Season so I can add even more magic to my growing collection.
Your medal is shipped to you after registration, closer to race dates—like a little Disney surprise in the mail.
Don’t Forget to Register Early!
Yes, these events can sell out!Around 18,000 runners participate in Disney virtual races each season, and Disney does put a cap on registrations. I’m guessing it’s more about medal production than “not enough space.”
See You at the Finish Line!
If you are a Disney Fan but not a serious fan of running, this type of event could be just perfect whether you’re in it for fitness, fun, or just for the medal (no judgment!), Disney virtual races are a magical way to bring the runDisney spirit wherever you are.
See you all at the finish line!
